We spotted these two far off in the distance, headed towards a small, open meadow, so we headed down the hillside behind some trees to watch. They grazed, the calf frolicked and played, and it nursed several times before they even realized we were there. Mom and baby both glanced up at us for a fleeting moment and then went about their day. What an amazing encounter to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat without another human in sight.
I LOVE the outdoors, and the mountains are my happy place. Many years ago, we visited the Canadian Rockies, and we instantly fell in love with what the mountains have to offer, from breathtaking scenery to countless wildlife opportunities. I remember traveling through a small town in British Columbia, Radium Hot Springs, where the sign that welcomes you to town says, “Mountains bring peace to the people.”. That quote and John Muir’s quote, “The mountains are calling and I must go” have resonated with me ever since. Whether it's shooting landscapes or wildlife, I find such a sense of peace and solitude just being there in the moment. Nourishment for the soul....a reminder for me that life is good.
